Personal Information
Mary Austin Agate was born on February 5, 1849. Her parents were John and Hannah Austin. Mary grew up in Queensbury, New York. She was the oldest of her three siblings.
Mary Austin Agate died on August 8, 1933, of heart disease. She was 84 years old. She was buried in Pittsford Cemetery.

In the newspaper Mary Austin Agate is referred to as Mrs. John Agate. At the time Mary Austin Agate lived, the men were the ones in charge. They had the jobs, owned the house and took care of the money. When a woman married she took her husband's name. Women did not have many legal rights. The husbands had all the rights.
